The conduct of statistical research is one of the major activities of SRTC. Research activities focus on the development, testing and/or experimentation of statistical theories, concepts, definitions, methods and techniques. The Division commits itself in enhancing statistical information in terms of quality, reliability, completeness, scope, and cost-effectiveness of producing or delivering statistical outputs.
Mandated to develop a comprehensive and integrated research and training programs on the theories, concepts and methodologies for the promotion of the Philippine Statistical System (PSS), the SRTC Research and Information Technology Division to date, has conducted and/or coordinated 90 research projects.

Research Agenda |

The SRTC is guided by a comprehensive and integrated Research Agenda. The agenda is continuously updated to consider current and emerging needs of the Philippine Statistical System and carry out responsive and relevant research programs. The major thrusts of the current Research Agenda are:
Improvement of methodologies, concepts, definitions and statistical techniques

Rationalization and preparation of more cost-effective designs for censuses and surveys

Development of relevant indicators responsive to emerging issues and concerns at the national and sub-national levels

Updates Research Agenda of the PSS based on emerging needs;
-
Conducts in-house and external research projects;
-
Conducts quarterly workshop on completed/on-going research undertakings;
-
Facilitates conduct of the SRTC Annual Conference;
-
Provides financial grants to institutions/professional statisticians when research topics fall under major thrusts of research agenda;
-
Provides financial assistance, through its Thesis and Dissertation Fellowship Program, to students enrolled in masters or doctorate program of statistics and are pursuing thesis or dissertation papers
-
Acts as Secretariat of PSS-wide Scientific Career Evaluation Committee (SCEC) of the Scientific Careers System for Statisticians (SCSS);

Monitoring of scholars under the RGSSP-Phase I;

Participates in inter-agency and technical committee activities within the PSS;

Maintains a comprehensive library collection on statistical books and journals and enhances the accessibility of statistical information;

Facilitates the archiving of research and training outputs/materials; and;
-
Maintains SRTC Website and IT facilities.

Thesis and Dissertation Fellowship Program |
| |
A financial assistance program to students taking up masters and doctorate programs in statistics that assist them in completing their thesis or dissertation, which is the final requirement of their studies. The grant amounts to P30,000 for a thesis fellow and P60,000 for a dissertation fellow. Applicants must posses the following
qualification requirements:

Enrolled either in a masters or doctorate program in Statistics;

Has completed the academic requirements of his/her study;
-
Has a thesis/dissertation proposal with a passing thesis/dissertation proposal defense;
-
Has an approved thesis/dissertation proposal that dwells on a topic aligned with the SRTC’s research agenda; and
-
Research work is expected to be completed within a period of five (5) to seven (7) months if working on a thesis; and twelve (12) to twenty-four (24) months if working on a dissertation.
Application Requirements

An application letter duly noted by his/her adviser;
-
An endorsement letter issued by the Dean/Director of the education institution where applicant is enrolled;
-
A copy of the approved thesis/dissertation proposal;
-
The approval sheet signed by the Adviser and panel members ontaining comments for the improvement of the paper. This serves as proof for passing the thesis/dissertation proposal defense; and
-
A timetable or work plan of the study.
