Abstract
The project was aimed at developing a local statistical information system for development planning, monitoring and evaluation. The prioritized list of local development indicators was constructed based on existing literature on the area and from interviews with local government representatives. Quezon City was a fortunate choice for pilot area in some respect since it had a well thought-out development plan and maintained certain statistical data source. This facilitated identification of indicators of physical, social and economic development deemed important at the local level. Of the 81 development indicators applicable to Quezon City, statistics for 19 indicators were available at the city government itself. The others were obtained from national agencies; data for 17 indicators, nearly as many as that available at the local level, were sourced from the National Statistics Office. Data gaps for Quezon City were evident for 14 indicators. The preparation of a list of key local development indicators and an assessment of data availability at the local level constitute but a step toward encouraging the development of local statistical database.
