Development of an Integrated Agricultural Survey (IAS) Design: An Alternative to BAS Specialized Surveys (2002)

Abstract

The development of an Integrated Agricultural Survey (IAS) design was conceived to gather reliable and timely information on crops and livestock production and on other economic aspects of agriculture as an alternative to specialized surveys. The results of the 1999 Barangay Screening Survey (BSS) and 2000 Household Screening Survey (HSS) were used as basis in the construction of sampling frame. A pilot study was then conducted to test the alternative approach in Benguet, Southern Leyte and Zamboang del Norte. Results of the pilot test showed that good estimates could be generated for many commodities in comparison with those from specialized surveys. The study recommended that with the favorable findings gained and the availability of the HSS sample frame, an Integrated Agricultural Survey may be conducted.
