Abstract
One area of concern in the agriculture sector is the generation of quality statistics on dairy animals and milk production. While planning and program development for the dairy industry are on stream, the present system of the Bureau of Agriculture Statistics for generating primary data and information on dairy appears inadequate. Hence, this study was aimed at developing a survey design for generating inventory of dairy animals and an estimation procedure for quantifying local fresh milk production. The main activity undertaken in Phase II was the piloting of the proposed survey design and instruments. This was conducted in selected areas where there was concentration of dairy farms and cooperatives. The pilot results were the basis for whatever necessary modifications/ refinements in the survey design and instruments. The system for regular updating of the list frame was developed and the mechanics for institutionalization was drawn.
