1988 Input-Output Survey of Establishments (1990)

Abstract

The 1988 Input-Output Survey of Establishments (IOSE) was designed primarily to provide additional and detailed information required in the preparation of the 1988 Interindustry (Input-Output) Accounts of the Philippines. It was conducted as a supplemental activity of the 1988 Census of Establishments (CE). The actual survey covered 2,110 establishments selected from the CE frame or listing of respondent - establishments. There were five sets of questionnaire for the following sectoral groups: (1) Agriculture and Forestry, (2) Fishery, (3) Mining, Manufacturing and Electricity, Gas and Water, (4) Construction, and (5) Non-Industrial Services. The questionnaire design followed that of the 1988 CE format, soliciting for further breakdown of production of cost aggregates as well as information on import contents and product marketing/distribution. It was recommended that the IOSE questionnaire be included as rider to the CE or the Annual Survey of Establishments (ASE) conducted by the National Statistics Office. One of the main objectives of this special survey was to provide the input-output table with the desired cost details which were not available from the CE and the ASE. These were crucial in the compilation of the I-O accounts because the I-O model was primarily concerned with commodity supply and demand analysis. The more detailed the commodity classification, the more useful and meaningful the results of the analysis became.
