Reconciliation of the SKEM-DTI Survey Results and Industrial Classification Systems (1998)

Abstract

This project was one component of the overall undertaking to integrate the Survey of Key Establishments in Manufacturing (SKEM) conducted by the NSO and DTI-MIS Survey as well as the industrial classification systems being used at the data processing level. The project aims to facilitate the conduct of critical activities during the transition period which is necessary to ensure the success of the integration of the two surveys. The specific objectives are as follows (1) to reconcile the data requirements and classification systems being used by the NSO and DTI through a special converter matrix; (2) to design and pretest a new questionnaire which is an integration of the SKEM and the DTI-MIS Survey; (3) to review and improve as well as expand the SKEM sample distribution across sectors; (4) to develop processing and dissemination system; and (5) to evaluate and analyze the preliminary results. A study on the expansion and other improvements on the distribution of the sample among the sectors and subsectors has been undertaken, as well as the pretest of the integrated survey questionnaire. The NSO implemented the project in cooperation with the joint Government-Private Sector Working Group on the Reconciliation of the SKEM and DTI Survey.
