Encoding, Processing and Tabulation of Agricultural Employment Data for LFS (2002)

Abstract

This study aimed to revive the generation of data of farm labor, wage rate and other related information on a regular basis. Previously, these information were taken from the Agricultural Labor Survey (ALS) of BAS but was discontinued due to budgetary and related constraints. Specifically, the study called for the following: (i) establishment of indicators of agricultural employment by major enterprise with details as to gender and status of employment, (ii) generation of data on wage rates among farm workers, and (iii) ascertaining the extent of contribution of agriculture in the labor force, using the LFS as source of basic information. It was recommended that an inter-agency technical working group should validate the old industry and occupation classification versus the revised version. It was also recommended that 3-digit occupation and industry disaggregation be done at the national level only.
