Abstract
Civil Registry documents at the National Statistics Office contain registers of vital events such as births, marriages and deaths. Statistics which are derived from the Civil Registry data are useful in population development studies. This project on the development of a data entry system was ultimately aimed at providing an assessment of statistical data quality of civil registry documents vis-à-vis records in the Census of Population and Housing, with the end in view of improving the quality of derived statistics. The project was also intended to reduce the present volume of Civil Registry documents left for keying which was estimated at 1.5 million documents and will likely double in less than a year if not addressed immediately. Applications of the developed system were done in the data encoding and processing.
