Abstract
The study aims to review and improve the current methodology of the Farm Prices Survey (FPS) of the Bureau of Agricultural Statistics (BAS). In particular, it involves pre-test of the proposed questionnaires and conduct of pilot surveys using the improved price collection procedures in selected provinces in Luzon. Presentation to BAS management and representative for other statistical agencies of the results of these two activities were undertakes as prerequisites to finalization of an improved FPS methodology, the main output of the study. It is expected to generate reliable, dependable and timely information at the farm level for selected agricultural commodities. The pilot surveys were undertaken in Ifugao, Benguet, Pangsinan, Isabela, Nueeva Ecija and Albay. At large number of provinces were covered to capture varying conditions assumed to be prevailing in
different provinces and regions in the country. Selection of these provinces was also based on the availability in the areas of many commodities/items covered by the FPS. Only Luzon provinces were chosen due to budget limitations. For both the questionnaire pretest and pilot surveys, processing of returns will be done manually following the procedures in the proposed methodology.
