Statistics for Policy Analysis  

 

Covers basic concepts of policy analysis, identification of the problem, goal, objectives and criteria appropriate for a given policy issue, as well as specification and formulation of indicators required for the analysis of a policy. This training will stimulate and develop analytical thinking in dissecting policies and in the use of information and statistics for improving the policy making process and decision-making.

One of the approaches to a sound policy analysis is through the use of statistical information and tools. With the various policies being formulated by the government, there is a need to learn how to approach policy problems and choose appropriate basic methods for analysis.

What will participants gain?

At the end of the course, the participants should be able to demonstrate understanding of various concepts in policy analysis, identify the problem, goal, objectives and criteria appropriate for a given policy issue, identify and formulate indicators required for the analysis of a policy, formulate operational definition of variables in the identified indicators, discuss the processes of gathering primary data and evaluating the quality of secondary data, apply the descriptive measures of data analysis; and perform analysis of data using measures of relationships.

Who can participate?

The training is recommended for participants responsible in the preparation, analysis, monitoring and improvement of government policies. Personnel at the supervisory level will also benefit for this training will provide a wider perspective of the government policy process. Participants should have knowledge of basic statistical concepts.
