Regression Analysis

The most widely used statistical technique, this is a method for analyzing the variability of a variable of interest (referred to as the dependent variable) by using information from one or more other variables (referred to as independent variables). Among other things, it seeks to answer the question: “What are the expected changes in the dependent variable as a result of changes, observed or induced, in the independent variable(s)?” Thus, regression analysis is a powerful tool in predicting the behavior of the dependent variable given certain conditions as represented by the independent variables. Regression analysis is appropriate for data from surveys. With some modifications, it is also used to study time series.

Course Aim

Be able to organize and manage data for regression analysis; apply and use the different procedure used for regression analysis in a statistical software package; perform diagnostic checking to select the best regression model; apply the concepts and procedure in regression analysis and select the best regression model.

Course Participants

Tailored for technical staff that needs to examine their data for relationships that may or may not exist, whether the data come from a survey, experiment or elsewhere in order to develop models for their research work. The course is also intended for other technical staff involved in preparing forecasts, economic research, policy analysis and other related functions. Background in statistics is necessary and would be helpful.
