Abstract
One major concern of distributive trade statistics is the absence of more appropriate measure of the country’s trading activities. Volume of goods traded remains a data gap and current wholesale and retail trade index being released is a combined index with base year pegged at year 1978. In this study, available trade statistics coming from the Quarterly Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (QSPBI) and Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI) in terms of data quality and its adequacy for the development of wholesale and retail trade index was assessed and evaluated. This led to a computation of said indices, but separately with 2005 as base year.
