The purpose of this training is to re-introduce basic statistics in an approach that is simple and practical to persons handling data and its analysis. The course is taught with the aid of Excel 2007 which has built in functions and add-inns that provide additional tools for the application of statistical methods for basic statistical data analysis. The course will commence with brief orientation on navigating in MS Excel 2007 and then proceed to the main thing which is the concepts and methods of basic statistical analysis. The course is taught through lectures, illustrated practical examples, hands-on computer exercises and workshops which will promote familiarity and appreciation of the statistical concepts and methods and their applications.
What can participants gain?
The course shall provide participants with a deep appreciation of the usefulness of statistics in as a tool in data analysis in practically all fields of discipline. Participants will be directed towards developing working knowledge on data organization, presentation, and interpreting statistical results using Excel 2007. At the end of the course, participants should be able to identify various types of data and sources, describe data collection procedures, generate statistical tables and graphs for various types of data, compute descriptive statistical measures, analyze various types of data using rates, ratio and proportion, use index number to analyze and interpret data and prepare a statistical report.
Who can participate?
Recommended for personnel involved or will be involved in summarizing, tabulating, presenting and interpreting statistical data. Participants should have familiarity with simple Excel operations such as selecting cells, entering formulas, copying and pasting data, inserting and deleting rows and columns, etc. Background in basic statistics is not necessary but would be helpful.
